LMC 40 Injection

Key Uses

The main uses for LMC-40 injection include:

Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) / Acid Reflux: Treating the symptoms (like heartburn and irritation) and damage (erosive esophagitis) caused by stomach acid flowing back into the food pipe.

Peptic Ulcer Disease:  Promoting the healing and preventing the recurrence of painful sores in the lining of the stomach (gastric ulcers) or the first part of the small intestine (duodenal ulcers).

Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome: Managing conditions where tumors cause the stomach to produce excessive amounts of acid.

Prevention of Stress Ulcers: Prescribed to seriously ill patients (often in an intensive care unit setting) to prevent stomach ulcers that can develop due to severe stress or illness.

Prophylaxis with Painkillers: Used to prevent stomach ulcers and acidity in individuals who require long-term use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) or other painkillers.

When Oral Medication is Not Possible: Administered by injection when a patient is unable to take the oral (tablet) form of pantoprazole.

Important Considerations

  • Administration: This medication is administered into a vein by a doctor or nurse; it should not be self-administered.
  • Mechanism: It belongs to a class of medicines known as proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) that work by blocking the final step of acid secretion in the stomach lining.
  • Long-term use: Long-term use may increase the risk of certain side effects, such as bone fractures and vitamin B12 or magnesium deficiency. Your doctor may recommend supplements if needed.
  • Lifestyle: Avoiding alcohol, smoking, and certain foods (like spicy or fatty items and caffeinated drinks) can enhance the treatment's effectiveness.
